1. What is Generationdb.com?
Generationdb is a family website that stores your personal information and links you with your family members registered in the site, creates a family-tree where links from one registered member to other registered member of the family is established, wherever they be. A unique feature of the site is the ability to link individual families through individuals and store information for the generations of the family. The family tree portraits a clear picture of the relations between members of the family which help the younger generation to understand and identify themselves with their far relatives and previous generation. Using this site, users across the globe can enter information about themselves, heir spouse, children, parents, siblings and other relatives. Users can also upload photographs and video and share them with other users.

The objective in creating such a website is to enable the users to keep in contact with his/her family – near and far, keep the new generation informed of the previous generations and far relatives of the family, to communicate about his family to known people and to interact with other distant family members who register in this site. At times it has so happened that the persons who stay away from their place of birth, have been cut away from their own roots. A close relative might stay in the same city, unknown to each other. The site is also meant to be used for similar community people to exchange ideas and share thoughts.

2.What is a Family Tree?
Family tree is the pictorial chart which will display the members of family of the registered member like spouse, parents, siblings and children. It shows the relation of the person to other members of the same familytree.

3.How do I register on generationdb?
You can register on the generationdb by opening the registration page http://www.generationdb.com/Registeration.aspx

4.What mandatory information is required for registering on generationdb?
Username (email address. If you do not have an email,l system will create an email for you with the prefix you choose as username@generationdb.com)

    5. Is my personal information safe on generationdb.com?
    Yes, information you provide on generationdb.com are stored on a secured server. Every individual field or your complete profile can be made private or public as you wish which gives you flexibility in what you want to expose to general public and what you want to show to your selected family members.

    6. How do I hide selected information?
    Once you are registered on generationdb.com and logged in to your private area, you can select edit profile and select any field you want to be private or public. Public information can be viewed by any one who visit the site.

    7.How do I browse profiles?
    Use search option to browse profiles at any stage. You can browse the profiles by selecting any one or combination of “Age between”, “Gender”, and “Location” whichever you select, the respective results will be displayed on the result page of the browsed file.

    8.How do I upload a photo or change a photo in my profile?
    After successful login, user can upload/change photo from “Individual profile” page.

    9.What format of photos are accepted?
    Photos should be in jpg/bmp formats.

    10.Can I edit/correct my name after registration?

    Yes, you can edit/correct your name from “individual profile page” by clicking on the “Edit profile” button.

    11. Can I edit my marital status later?
    Yes, you can edit your marital status whenever you desire.

    12. Can I add or delete sibling?
    Yes, you can add or delete the siblings from “Edit children/sibling”.

    13. Can I add or delete children?
    Yes, you can add/ delete or edit status of children from “Edit children/sibling”.

    14. How can I remove my sibling’s name repeated on my family tree?
    This happens due to a spelling mistake or may be a space difference in the two names. You can delete the wrong name of sibling by click on “Edit children/Sibling” button from “Individual profile”.

    15. How is that my brother is linked on my family tree, but I am not?
    Spelling mistake or difference in his name you provided on your profile from what he used to register (First name, Middle name, and Last name), city, and country will lead to linking problems. Please make sure your brother’s name you use and what he uses are the same.

    16. What will happen if my brother/sibling register with a different name from what I registered for him/her, but parents’ details are the same as mine?
    You cannot link with your brother. The spelling of your brother’s name, city, and country should be same to link with you. OR you have to edit your brother’s name on your profile to match what he has entered. Click on “Check link” at the bottom of your “Family Tree.” The page will lead you to your brother’s page to link. (“Check Link” has to be done on both sides for successful link, ie., you and your brother, if the linking was not done automatically while registering)

    15) How can I link to my sister who registered with her changed name?
    Edit your sister’s name on your profile the same as she entered and click on “Check link” or “check relationship” with your “Family Tree,” When you are logged in, it will lead your sister to link. (“Check Link” has to be done on both sides for successful link, ie., you and your sister)

    16) What if my father’s name registered with a spelling error other than what I gave, but other details remain the same?
    You father cannot link with you. Father’s name, city, and country spelling should be same to link with you. OR you have to edit your father’s name on your profile to match what he has entered and click on “Check link” at the bottom of your “Family Tree.” The page will lead your father to link with yours. (“Check Link” has to be done on both sides for successful link, ie., you and your father, if the linking was not done automatically while registering.

    17) What if I add one of my siblings to my profile, who is not updated with my father?
    Your sibling will not reflect to your father’s profile. If your father wants to add your sibling as his son or daughter, then he has to click “check relationship” link from his family tree to add your sibling as his son.

    18) What if my son/daughter appeared twice on my family tree?
    This error is happened when there is a spelling variation on your son name in your profile and name in your son’s profile. Just delete the photo which is not having link from “edit/delete children” button link from the individual profile page.

    19) Can I register and hide my personal information from the public?
    Yes, you can hide selected fields of information from public by checking on “Private” check box while registering at generationdb OR you can hide entire profile by click on “Hide Profile” button from “Individual profile” page.

    20) Can I hide my profile from public and show to selected members that I choose?
    No, you cannot hide your profile for selected members.

    21) How do I get messages/information from generationdb?
    You can get messages/information on “inbox” that will be displayed on “individual profile” page as you log in.

    22) Can I contact any member on generationdb?
    You can contact any member on generationdb if they have not blocked or opted not to receive messages from others.

    23) Can I select the people who can contact me?
    Yes, you can select particular member who can contact you by selecting list of members from “New user registration II” page.

    Album
    24) I am not registered on Generationdb. Can I create an Album?
    No, you cannot create an album, only registered users can create an album.

    25) How do I create an Album on generationdb?

    After successful login, the user can create an album from “Individual profile” page or click “Album” link from home page, then click on “Create album” button. Community album can be created by webmaster of the particular community only on his/her logging in as webmaster of that particular community.

    26) How many Photos I can store on generationdb Album?

    Maximum 50 photos can be uploaded by a single registrant.

    27) Can I change photos and description later?
    Yes, you can change any photos and description by “Edit/Delete photos” from the individual album.

    28) Is there any size or format restriction for the photos?
    Highest resolution 640 x 480 pixel. The recommended format will be JPEG.

    29) Can I link my album to any other member’s (e.g. father’s ) album?
    No, you cannot link your album with any other member’s album

    30) Can I make my album available only for selected members?
    No, you cannot make your album available for selected members, but you can make it either available or unavailable for public.

    31) Can I get a URL link of my album page which I can send to others even if it is marked private?
    Yes, you cannot send theURL of your album to others.

    Community
    32) What is community on generationdb?
    Community is a group of like minded people. Anyone can create a community, but s/he should gather minimum 100 members within 30 days of the creation of the community. Otherwise the community will be automatically deleted. Special requests with valid reasons to allow communities with less than 100 members may be sent to admin@generationdb.com within 15 days of creation of the community. Each community will be maintained by moderator/webmaster (the one who staredt it).

    33) Can anyone create a community?
    Yes, any registered member can create a community.

    34) How many communities I can create?

    One registered member can create only one community.

    35) Can I join more than one community?
    Yes, registered members can join more than one community.

    36) Can I change the layout of the community page as a community webmaster?
    No, you cannot change the layout of the community page.

    37) Who posts on community page?
    Community webmaster can post/edit/delete the messages on community and notice board.

    38) Can a community webmaster contact all members at a time?
    Yes, a community webmaster can contact members of his community as a group.

    39) Can I link my community with other communities?
    No, you cannot link your community with other communities

    40) Who can create a community album?
    Webmaster/moderator of the particular community can create/edit/delete the community album.

    41) Can anybody contact us?
    Yes, any one is free to contact us.

    Obituary
    42) What is obituary page for?
    To announce the death of near and dear ones and to display the late person(s) death anniversaries.

    43) Who posts obituary on generationdb?
    Any registered user can post obituary on the generationdb.

    44) Can I post death anniversary of my grand father?
    You can post death anniversary in the Obituary page (no particular space given for death anniversary).

    45) Do I have to pay specially for posting obituary?
    No need to pay, any registered member can post.

    46) How long will the obituary posting remain on my site?
    As of now Obituary posting will remain for 30 days, after the period it will be automatically removed from the site. Special requests will be considered.

    Lost/Missing
    47) What is lost or missing page for?
    To display the details of the lost or missing person and to draw the attention of the internet audience and every visitor on the generationdb.

    48) Who posts the lost or missing on generationdb?
    Any registered user can post or delete the details of the lost/missing person on the generationdb.

    50) Can I report the missing information of my brother who has been missing for the past 20 years?
    Yes, you can report.

    51) Should pay I for reporting the lost/missing?
    At present there is no need to pay, any registered member can post.

    52) How long will the lost/missing report remain on the site?

    Lost/missing report will be available on the generationdb.com for 30 days, after that it will be automatically removed from the site. Special requests will be considered

    53) Some one has posted my information under lost/missing category wrongly, whom should I contact?
    You can send a request to the admin@generationdb.com to delete the information.

    54) Can I delete the information about a lost/missing person?
    Yes, the details of a lost/missing person can be deleted by the person who uploaded the details.

    55) What is the ‘Found Person’ page for?
    When a lost/missing person is found, then the details of the found person will be displayed on the ‘found person’ page.

    56 Can I delete the found person’s details?
    No you cannot delete the found person’s detail.

    Feedback
    56) How do I submit a feedback?
    After successful login ,a user can submit his feedback.

    57) How many feedbacks I can submit?
    As many as you wish.

    58) Can anybody submit a feedback?
    Registered member only can leave a feedback.

    59) Is there any file size restriction for feedback?
    No file size restriction for feedback.

    No, only the site admin can delete the feedback.
